Hazel Christensen

Hazel G. Christensen, age 71, of Pleasant Prairie formerly of Schaumburg, IL passed away, after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. Hazel was born on May 29, 1947 in Mobile, AL to James and Leola (Pearce) Green. She graduated from Troy High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Montevello. Hazel married Carl Christensen on June 26, 1971 in Birmingham, AL. She was a jack of all trades who excelled at all aspects of any job she held. Hazel was a teacher, a handywoman and a pharmaceutical rep. who was awarded sales person of the year. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines International and was very active in the Girl Scouts, including being a lifetime member. She enjoyed woodworking, singing, camping, roller coasters and amusement parks and she will was well known for riding around on her scooter, “Big Bird”. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by, her parents, James and Leola Green; a granddaughter, Laura Dunafin and her beloved mother and father-in-law, Carl and Janet Christensen.

Hazel is survived by, her husband of 47 years, Carl of Pleasant Prairie; two daughters, Cathy (Curt) Dunafin of LeRoy, IL and Cyndi (Matt) Crimmins of Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Aidan and Delaney Crimmins and Colin and Caleb Dunafin; two brothers, Kenneth (Barbara) Green and Donald Green; her sister, Margaret Osteen as well as nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.

A memorial service for Hazel will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 8717 Lakeshore Drive, Pleasant Prairie. A visitation with the family will take place on Friday at the house from 3:00 P.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
