Virginia Niemi

Virginia “Ginny” A. Niemi, 76, a resident of Kenosha, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at her home surrounded by family.

Ginny was born on May 27, 1938 in Calumet,Michigan to Ardell and Edna (Laurinaho) Jurmo. Growing up, she attended school in Calumet. On June 21, 1958, she married Norman Niemi, and they were later blessed with three children. They moved to Kenosha in 1969 where she enjoyed the remainder of her life.

Ginny was a proud homemaker and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love for children extended beyond family. She babysat for dozens of families throughout her life.

Ginny was a longtime member of Holy Nativity Lutheran Church where she was a devoted volunteer. She will be missed by the Sunday school program, the church quilters, and the volunteers at the soup kitchen of the Shalom Center.

Ginny enjoyed her water aerobics class at Diver Dan’s, crocheting, gardening, and visiting family and friends in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Her greatest joy was spending time with the family she loved so much.

She is lovingly survived by her husband of 56 years, Norman, her son Paul (Doreen) Niemi, and her daughter Laura (Carl) Kozlowski of Kenosha, as well as her sister Vicki (John) Bastian of Laurium Michigan. Ginny is further survived by her beloved grandchildren, Crystal Niemi, Jimmy Niemi, Heather (Scott) Matczak, Steven (Adrienne) Niemi, Krystiana Kozlowski; her great grandchildren, Monique Gordon, Avianna Munger, Larrell Munger; and one great-great grandchild Asiya Brown and by many, many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Wanda Niemi in 2005.

The memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 20, 2015 at 6:00PM at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church in Kenosha (2323-17th Avenue). The visitation with the family will be on Wednesday at the church from 4:30PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shalom Center soup kitchen are appreciated.
