Carl Nelson (1927 – 2005)

Carl ?Roy? Nelson, age 78 a resident of Racine died November 7, 2005 at Lincoln Village in Racine.

Born on September 23, 1927 he was the son of the late Carl Lee and Agnes (Wasquite) Nelson.

He was educated in the schools of Racine.

On September 25, 1948 he married Hildegard A. Blankman in Racine.

He served in the US Army as a TEC 5 from December 11, 1945 until April 13, 1947.

He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Racine. He was an avid fisherman. He was employed for many years as a carpenter and was a member of the local carpenters union for 50 years. He was also employed at St. Luke?s Hospital as a carpenter until he retired in 1981. He would often help friends and family with various remodeling projects and was referred to as ?The Wood Surgeon?.

He is survived by one son Scott J. Nelson (and his fianc?e Laurie Reidenbach) of Racine; one daughter Linda (Gary Whitmore) Andersen of Burlington; two grandchildren Jason (Sarah Alton) Andersen of Racine and Jennifer Andersen of Union Grove; two great grandchildren Logyn and Jaydon; 4 brothers Joe Nelson of Racine, Raymond Nelson of Union Grove Kenneth (Lois Kilby) Nelson of Racine, Michael Nelson of Racine, and two sisters Ruth Garski of Racine and Margie (Joe) Jurik of Kenosha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hildegarde on April 27 2005, and one step brother James Arlington.

Funeral services for Carl will be held on Saturday November 12, 2005 at 11:00AM at Atonement Lutheran Church. (2915-Wright Avenue) Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Burial will take place on Monday November 14, 2005 at 10:00AM at Southern WI Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Atonement Lutheran Church or Vitas Hospice.

The family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to both Vitas Hospice and the staff of Lincoln Village for their care and compassion.
