Sophie Boomsma (1914 – 2010)

Sophie D. Boomsma, 96, of Racine passed away on December 21, 2010 at Lincoln Village.

Sophie was born on May 29, 1914 in Chicago IL. She moved to Racine as a young girl and was educated in the schools of Racine.

She married Louis Charles Boomsma on January 30, 1937 in Waukegan IL.

Sophie was a life long member of Calvary Memorial Church. She was very involved with church functions and groups. Sophie was employed with Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company and for a time with Racine Schools in the Food Service Division.

Sophie is survived by her two sons James (Judy) Boomsma of Racine WI and John (Dolores) “Lorie” Boomsma of Racine WI, and two daughters Alice (Larry) of Waukesha WI and Karyll (Darrel) Heckman of Menomonee Falls WI. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2007, and three brothers Stanley, John and Robert.

Special thanks to Lincoln Village as well as Dr. Zablotney and staff for their kind compassionate care.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday December 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Memorial Church (4001 Washington Ave). Visitation will be on Wednesday at the church from 12:00 PM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials to Calvary Memorial Church or Lincoln Village would be appreciated.

Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ meant everything to her and now she is with Him forever. May her family follow in her footsteps. Thank you Lord Jesus.
