Norma Viets (1919-20185)

Norma Viets

Norma Frieda (Seefeldt) Viets went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 9, 2018, at the age of 98, surrounded by members of her loving family. She was born on June 14, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin—one of three children of A. Bernhard and Frieda Seefeldt, who are deceased. Her father was an organist at their church and a teacher at its Christian Day School for 40 years. She was a graduate (valedictorian) of Girls’ Technical High School in Milwaukee, attended Miss Brown’s School of Business (scholarship), and worked as a legal secretary until she married Hillard Viets, a native of the State of Missouri, on June 27, 1942. He was called to his heavenly home on June 18, 2011, after almost 69 years of a loving marriage.

Norma’s hobby was “handwork” of all kinds: knitting, crocheting, tatting, and sewing. She knit many sweaters and layettes for expectant mothers. She treasured all the good times she spent with her family and was an avid watcher of sports. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and loved reading books by early authors like A.W. Tozer, Charles Spurgeon, and Andrew Murray on their inspiring and challenging insights on Biblical truth.

Norma loved instrumental and choral music. She had a heart and voice full of praise and thanks for God’s awesome creation; for her Savior Jesus’ redeeming love; and for the Holy Spirit’s revelation of Truth from God’s Word. She had a thirst for “knowing God” more and more and trusting Him implicitly.

Norma is survived by three children: Mark (Barbara), retired pastor from Cleveland, Ohio; Marilyn of Milwaukee, WI; and Shari Berce of Franksville, WI. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Chris, and eleven grandchildren: Matthew (Jennifer) Viets, Josette (Ryan) Kirker, Joan Viets, Amy (Evan) Paul, Beth (Bill) Hecker, Paul (Chelsey) Viets, Jacob (Jenelle) Berce, Alex (Kristin) Berce, Gina (John) Lipor, Philip (Mary) Berce, and Christa Berce. She is further survived by nine great-grandchildren: Steven Viets; Kellen and Jacob Finn Kirker; Abby, David, and Levi Hecker; Haddie and Cutler Viets; and Ezra Lipor.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hillard, son Timothy, son-in-law Philip Berce, brother Wally Seefeldt, sister Hilda Suckow, granddaughter Maria, and great-granddaughter Lydia Paul.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 5:00PM at Racine Bible Church (12505 Spring St, Sturtevant, WI 53177). Visitation with the family will be at the church from 4:00PM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Racine Bible Church (racinebible.org), Cru (cru.org), or Hospice Alliance (hospicealliance.org) would be appreciated.
