Mitchell J. “Mitch” Engen (1954-2019)

Mitchell Engen

Mitchell J. “Mitch” Engen, age 65, of Kenosha passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 at his home with his loving wife and son by his side.

Born on January 23, 1954 in Sparta WI, he was the son of the late Howard and June (Storandt) Engen. He was educated in the schools of Black River Falls and was a graduate of Carthage College with a degree in history. On June 28, 1980 he married Nancy Burns in Black River Falls.

He was employed as the Supervisor of Inspections for the City of Kenosha. He was also employed for a time at State Construction. As an employee of the city he was dedicated to preserving the older neighborhoods and had a great relationship with the aldermen who represented the older neighborhoods. He was a confidant to selected aldermen whom he always gave the “real story” to regarding city hall.

He was an avid golfer and was very proud of the “hole in one” he made on the 17th hole of the Spring Valley Golf Course. He was in various golf leagues throughout the city. He enjoyed cooking and gardening and liked to travel with his wife.

He authored a book about Lee Plumbing Mechanical Contractors Inc. titled a history of Lee Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electric 1976-2011. He enjoyed his Friday lunches with his former co-workers at various “socializing venues”. He was known to support his wife’s love of rickshaws.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of Kenosha; one son Bradley (Sandi) Kodl of Paris WI; three grandchildren, Preston, Parker and Delaney; one brother Michael Engen of Texas and two twin sisters Marla (Frank Harp) Koranda of Oregon WI and Maya (Lee Farrell) Lee. He is further survived by many friends who will all miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service for Mitch will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 12:30 pm at the Kemper Center Founders Hall (6501-3rdAvenue). Visitation with the family will be on Sunday in Founders Hall from 11:00AM until the time of services.
