Josephine V. Rozinski (1925-2019)

Josephine Viola Rozinski, age 93, of Kenosha passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Joseph”s Home and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family. Josephine was born on January 14, 1925 in Kenosha to John and Marie (Biscardi) Ruffolo. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1943 and from cosmetology school. Josephine married Richard Rozinski on November 16, 1946 at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She worked for over 20 years at Piggly Wiggly where she established many meaningful relationships with her customers. She gave of herself as much as any one person could. Her years of service to others expanded over 42. This included serving on the board for United Cerebral Palsy; the Kenosha Achievement Center where she was a founding board member; her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, the Holiday House Give-away program; a member of the Kenosha public Museum, the Kenosha historical Society. She knitted caps and booties for the newborn unit at Aurora and the old St. Catherine’s Hospital was a member of the AT&T Pioneers. In addition, Josephine read articles from the Kenosha News, to the visually impaired over closed circuit radio at Gateway Technical College. Josephine had a great affection for bowling and she was able to travel all over for tournaments. She was also inducted into the Kenosha Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame where she also served as treasurer for 14 years. With all her accomplishments, Josephine will most be remembered by her family and the love they have for her. Though she is clearly defined as mom, grandma and great grandma Jo, she is better defined as the Contadina of her family. The translation from Italian to English might best be described as the consummate woman: mother, cook, cleaner, washwoman, nurse, entertainer, story-teller, teacher and voice of reason. A formidable woman, the center of her family.

She was preceded in death by, her parents, husband, Richard and her sister, Eleanor Kreuser.

Josephine is survived by, five children, Rita (John) Mueller of Burlington, Terri (Joe) Gassert of Mequon, Marianne Rozinski of Port Washington, John (Carol) Rozinski of Chandler, AZ and Rick (Anne) Rozinski of Kenosha; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (7307 40th Avenue) with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Kenosha Achievement Center or St. Joseph’s Home and Rehabilitation Center would be greatly appreciated.
