Gerald S. “Jerry” Rasmussen (1941-2019)

Gerald S. “Jerry” Rasmussen, age 78, of Kenosha passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on August 5, 1941 in Kenosha to Arthur and Louella (Petersen) Rasmussen. Best known as the owner of the Brat Stop, his training began with sweeping the floors of The Pine Row Cheese Market, his parents’ business. After graduating from Salem Central High School, Jerry purchased the original Brat Stop with his brother in 1961. During the early years, he also worked for AMC. His brother opted to leave the business, but Jerry had found his calling. He grew what was a small “beer bar” into what it is today. An active member of the Tavern League of Wisconsin since 1965, he held the offices of President for the city and the county of Kenosha and Senior Vice-President for the state of Wisconsin. Jerry’s love of travel took him to many wonderful places, but New Orleans was like a second home which he frequently visited and maintained many friendships. Jerry was a generous man that never refused a request for charitable donations and took great satisfaction in hosting major fundraising events. A close friend of many, he preferred to see the good in everyone. He valued spending time and making memories with family and friends over anything money could buy.

He was preceded in death by, his parents and his longtime companion, Carla Mitchell.

Jerry is survived by, his brother, Arthur Richard (Sharon) Rasmussen; his children, Deborah (William) Glembocki, Theresa (Ronald) Allen, Leah (Ty Haley) Rasmussen and Gerald (Stacey Delaney) Rasmussen II along with their mother, his wife, Norma Rasmussen.

He will be dearly missed by his partner of 14 years, Lori Stern, and her children, Jacob Stern and Logan and Neva Arneson.

In accordance with Jerry’s wishes no formal funeral services will be held, but there will be a visitation with the family on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the Parkway Chateau at the Brat Stop (12304 – 75th Street) from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
