Richard E. Engels (1924-2015)

Richard E. Engels, age 91, a resident of WoodstockIL, formerly of Kenosha, died Sunday March 8^th 2015 atCentegraHospital inWoodstockIL.

Richard was born February 21^st, 1924 in Kenosha to Frank and Florence (Malmgren) Engels. Dick graduated from Kenosha High School in 1941. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a medic for the 40^th Infantry Division in the South Pacific.

After the service, he graduated from the UniversityOf Wyoming School Of Pharmacyin 1950. Although Dick loved Wyoming, he returned to Kenoshaand followed in his father’s footsteps as a local pharmacist. On June 30^th, 1956, Dick was united in marriage with Juanita M. Young and they were blessed with one daughter, Laura.

He worked at Engels Drug Store for many years and also at St. Catherine’s Hospital before retiring. Dick really appreciated being of service to his local community and treated his customers as if they were friends. He loved to read the newspaper from cover to cover and would always have a lively opinion to share about current events.

Dick is survived by his daughter Laura (Adam Zawislak) Engels of Woodstock IL, and by his sister-in-law Brenda Engels.

He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita, his parents, his brothers Robert W. Engels and Frank G. Engels and by his sister Ruth Prewo.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 11^th 2015 at 7:00PM at the Woman’s Club of Kenosha. (6028-8^th Avenue; directly across the street fromLibraryPark) Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Woman’s Club from 5:00PM until the time of services. Burial will take place at a later date at Southern WI Veterans Cemetery inUnion GroveWI. In lieu of flowers memorials to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
