LeRoy David Anderson

LeRoy David “Andy” Anderson, of Kenosha, passed away at age 87 on November 22nd, 2015 at his home.

Andy was born in Jamestown, North Dakota on July 7th, 1928 to Levi and Luella (Hinsperger) Anderson. He graduated from Palermo High School in 1947 and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Minot State University. Andy served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. On October 3rd, 1954, he was united in marriage with Wilma “Billie” Ward at Trinity Lutheran Church in Palermo, North Dakota.

Andy worked for the Great Northern Railroad as a brakeman for several years before becoming a teacher. He started out in one room school houses and taught in Brockton, Montana and Minot, North Dakota before moving to Kenosha. He spent 20 years as a teacher at Bradford High School, retiring in 1990. Thousands of students were influenced by him and will remember him fondly.

In his spare time, Andy enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, bowling, playing cards, and in his youth, boxing. He was a member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church. He and Billie loved to spend their winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Surviving Andy are his beloved wife of 61 years, Wilma “Billie” Anderson of Kenosha and his daughters Candis (Roger) Englund and Karen (Kevin) Weidner, both of New Berlin. In addition he is survived by his brothers, Raymond (Gloria) Anderson of Keiser, Oregon and Robert Anderson of Minot,North Dakota, his brother-in-law DuWayne (Beverly) Ward and his sister-in-law Diane Ward. He will be lovingly missed by his grandchildren Craig Englund and Christopher Englund of New Berlin as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Andy will be held on Friday November 27th, 2015 at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church (2001-80th Street) at 11:00AM. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 9:30AM until the time of the service at St. Mary’s. Interment at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or to the Wounded Warriors Project would be appreciated by the family.
