Lafayette Jefferson (1920-2013)

Mr. Lafayette Jefferson, 93, of Racine, Wisconsin went home to be the Lord at Wheaton-Franciscan Hospital surrounded by his family on March 4, 2013. Lafayette was born February 6, 1920 in Benson, Louisiana to Sam and Lucille (Née: Simon) Jefferson.

Lafayette worked as a machinist at Laddish/Tri-Clover in Kenosha, Twin Disc, Standard Foundry, J. I. Case Company and Mid-Town Foods. He was faithful member of New Omega Baptist Church for many years where he served as an usher.  He was an avid baseball fan, loved music and spending time with his grandchildren and sharing stories about his war experience. He practiced healthy eating and living.

Lafayette is survived by his wife Lillian of 51 years, Daughters: Diana Dearring of Minneapolis, MN; Linda Jefferson and Claudette (Lester) Shackelford of Inglewood, CA., Mamie McClain of Racine, Sons: Ronald (Margaret) Robinson of Racine, Charles (Glynis) Foster of Aurora, Ill.  Brothers: Thomas Jefferson of New York, Limas Jefferson of Houston, Texas, Harold Jefferson of Mansfield, Louisiana, Louis Jefferson of Los Angeles, CA., Amos and Willie Jefferson of Inglewood, CA; Sisters: Rosa Watkins of Spring Water, New York, Pearl Burnett of Alton, Ill, Annie (Roy) Wilson of Shreveport, Louisiana, Exie B. Burks and Larenza Jefferson of Hawthorne, CA, Geneva Sloane of Las Vegas, Nevada and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Lafayette was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Eddie Jones, James Jefferson, Sisters: Bernice Redmond, Vayola Mackey, Luvenia and Ruth Jefferson, Eula Norton, grandson, Kenneth Westmoreland.

A special thank you to the staff/doctors at Wheaton-Franciscan Hospital for their loving care and support. Also thank you to Casey Family Options Funeral Home and New Omega Baptist Church for all of the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at New Omega Baptist Church, 5731 Northwestern Ave, Racine, Wisconsin 53406 at 11:00 a.m.   Visitation will be 1 hour before the service from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Mr. Jefferson will receive full military honors at the church following the home-going ceremony.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the family would be appreciated.

    I worked with Mr. Jeff for several years at tri-clover polishing elbows.He was a quiet man,but when he spoke you listened.I enjoyed spending time talking and learning from him.Im very sorry for your loss,he was a great man.God bless

    He was a great person to know. We have all lost a good Friend.

    Mamie you can be consoled in the fact that you were always there for your Mother and Stepfather. Death is our enternal enemy and we cannot be reconciled to that fact. I admire how dedicated you were to taking care of your Mother and Stepfather. Jehovah knows your trials and will comfort you.
