Elsie Castro (1924 – 2010)

Born October 11, 1924 Elsie Elizabeth (Eagle Woman) (O’Connor Kaquatosh) Castro crossed over into the spirit world on Saturday, October 9, 2010 in Racine Wisconsin. Elsie was born in Neopit, Wisconsin and attended St. Joseph’s Indian Boarding School. She left the Menominee Reservation and moved to Milwaukee where she met Santos Castro her husband and soul mate of 63 years. Elsie is survived by her husband Santos (Tony) and her children: Carmen Castro, Chris tine Smith (Ray), Cornell Castro, Cruz Castro, Craig Castro, Celestine (Tina) Koehn (Tom), Cecelia Sanchez, step son Able Castro (Phylis) and her sister Eleanor Schaeffer. She is preceded in death by her son Vernon (Sparky), step son David and sisters and brothers Margie, Theresa, Jeanie, Francis and Christian. Elsie’s pride and joy were her 20 grandchildren, 13 great grand children and 2 great great grandchildren.

Elsie was best known for her love of life, family and adventure. She had a welcoming persona and a strong spirit. She loved to attend traditional Native American ceremonies and gatherings. She loved spending time at her place on bass lake in Keshena. She was well known for her Native American beadwork and crafts. Elsie was on the Elder Council of the Congregation of the Great Spirit.

Visitation will be held at the Congregation of the Great Spirit, 1000 W. Lapham Blvd. Milwaukee WI, 54204, 414-672-6989, Wednesday, October 13th at 11:00 AM and a memorial service at 1:00 PM. On Thursday October 14th, 2010, visitation and a prayer service will be held at Saint Michael’s Church, N 816 State Hwy 47-55 Keshena WI, 54135 at 1:00 PM followed by internment at Rest Haven Cemetery in Keshena WI.
